American Ultimate Disc League?

http://theaudl.com/

Anybody heard about it?
Just curious.

Apparently, there are cheerleaders:

It's real. Looks like the first games are this weekend. I know at least two guys from Tennessee who are playing on the Louisville Revolution team.

As for those cheerleaders...I have no words.

I am curious if the players (or cheerleaders) are paid. Or maybe this is one of those, "if it is a success, money may come later." I hope they do well. I think it would be fun to watch a game in the same fan-centered spirit of other pro games. I want a big tub of popcorn and a soda, sitting on the sidelines rooting for my team. Also, there must be a mascot.

On a side note, Big Gulps will be holding cheerleader tryouts this weekend after our games on Saturday. We are looking for bubbly, effervescent people to cheer us to certain victory (or at least certain tiredness).
Here is a suggested cheer:
"Craig, Craig, He's our man!"
"If Craig can't do it, no one can!"

Surely you meant to say you'd rather have some cajun eggrolls and some high life while on the sidelines heckling your team. There definitely needs to be mascots though. Maybe the mascots could fight with pugil sticks at half.

It is definitely for real, I know most of the guys on the Indianapolis team from league up there, and the coaches are old league friends of mine. The guys who started the league didn't really know what they were doing at first, but it seems to be coming together. They have altered some of the rules, and added referees (more authority than Observers), and altered the size of the field to fit inside a football field. There have been Brodie rumors, but I am not sure about the payment at this juncture. Seems like they didn't go to the biggest Ultimate towns at this time, not sure the plan behind that.

Turns out Brodie is actually playing on the Indy team... Wonder what that is like for my friends who are coaching.

He posted a highlight video of their scrimmage:

It is mostly Brodie highlights, but you can see the game isn't that different.

Four 12 minute quarters and two time outs per half?

Get ready for four Hail Mary set plays per game. Is it not ungodly stupid to make the "most exciting play" of the game the equivalent of an NBA rebound and the last two minutes of college basketball?

I don't think you can change the way that the games are won and drastically change the dimensions of the field and expect game play to stay the same.

thanks for the article, Christina. my favorite part is "You can buy a pro Ultimate team for about $2,500."

i'm considering making an investment in the Atlanta Fighting Mongooses. Anyone on board?

My brother went to the Philly game tonight. Here is his report:

12 min quarters
20 yard end zones
80 yard field
Width same as football Field width

Running time, stoppage only for scores

Three refs
No self called fouls
Silent stall count kept by ref, 7
Travel is turn over
Marking fouls result in 10 yard penalty, stall count restarts

Skill level high

Tonight's game do what windy

Saw a 90 yard pull!

Layout blocks on d

Good handling
Mediocre cutting
Many good catches, some bone head misses

Little zone

Philly dressed 21 players
Buffalo dressed 15
