I don't really get why the people who didn't want to play are getting so worked up. Don't play, that's your choice, we're all grown-ups.

I like playing ultimate and want to get my money's worth. I didn't pay for pick-up, pick-up is free. It seems pretty clear that those that didn't want to play are only pissy because they had to take a forfeit. Not really sure why the people who were able to mark it as a rainout are upset at all. You got what you wanted by resting and not having it hurt you and those of us who wanted to play got what we wanted.

Maybe I'm misreading some of this thread and sorry if I am but if I'm not then:
Why are some captains calling games just because they don't want to play if they may actually have enough who do want to play?
Why is a game called a rainout if only one of the teams didn't want to play?

It's not. 420 didn't want to play, so they forfeited on Tuesday to Frisbee Club and Hersch.

So why is it a rain out if there is no rain?

Oh look! A koala bear!

Koala bears sleep like 20 hours a day. Those lucky bastards.

edit: watch out for drop bears

Why did we have games today? I was resting from the games on Tuesday. And then it almost rained.

Can someone please tell me why Chris Gwinner is such an enormous asshole? i can't believe he didn't call a forfeit on Tuesday, i mean sure i was in Toronto for work and didn't see a drop of rain, but i don't get why he couldn't field a team of coffee bean collectors from Guatemala.

Also kudos to Blackburn for coming up with the term "pre-arranged mutually-agreed rainouts"

i feel like a little more red text could have been used in Dan's messages

Pete, may i suggest including more questions of absurdity in your messages, i think if you were to get into a competition with some of the greats on the extreme conservative right in their line of reasoning, you'd be able to hold your own

final comment, with the way that Craig with a C was dominating Frito in their Semi's matchup, i can only guess that Frito is trying to push more pickup so that Craig stops playing organized ulty and switches over completely to his true love of pickup

hey Lynch, we all heart you, bang up job

more Jr. comments, that's what this post is missing

Just to finish this off (since I never seem to know when to quit), with the least amount of snark possible -

1) In the irrelevancy category: I looked through my emails, and we stopped playing games on the Tuesday after MST in 2000, concurrent with the change to two rounds of 13 each night. In previous years, we played three rounds of 9, with each team playing two of the three rounds.

2) Per LPS's comment, the discussion was never about the forfeits. Jenny and I are the only two folks here whose team officially took a forfeit for Tuesday, and I'll echo what she said: we truly don't care.

3) My interest here lay in my long history of playing in the lower echelons of the league. Attendance problems always mar the "C bracket" more than the rest of the league. I've been there. A lot. Forcing people to play six days out of ten (which the average player can't or won't) inevitably compounds the problem.

If you think playing official games on the Tuesday after MST doesn't affect attendance, then I'll point out tonight. Of the ten teams who played at GSP tonight, only four of them had at least five subs. One team was so shorthanded that they didn't have enough people to play until after 7pm.

Would attendance have been better had there not been games on Tuesday? Honestly, no idea.

4) This thread summarized. Primary response #1: "How dare you take away my games?" Primary response #2: "What about the average league player?"

5) And just 'cause I got super serial: Powers, you're hilarious. Image

Seriously? People are being forced to play something for which they voluntarily paid money to do so? I don't really feel like arguing back and forth anymore over a topic that's at a total standstill, but this is just false.

"Forcing" is probably too strong a word choice. Swap it with "asking" or "expecting".

Figured as much...smileyface. Nonetheless...this is life. We all deal with on a daily basis the pull between what we want to do and what we might feel we are expected to do. Some people are better at dealing at it than others. But we all know what our choices are and have to learn to deal with the consequences. Some players are going to feel pressured to play the Tuesday after MST and other players are going to feel pressured to not show up because their captain or other leaders don't feel they should play. It works both ways.
