Summer League suggestion box

Postby MartinVanBuren » Mon Aug 06, 2012 10:22 am

Do you have a suggestion for how to make summer league better? please post it here, or email it to me, or tell me in person if you see me. i will read/listen to them all.

* this thread is not for arguing, fighting, internet warring, name calling, badgering, oettering, trapping someone in a point of debate minutiae, straw-manning, tin-mannig, iron-manning, eli manning, godwinning, white knighting, robin hooding, crybabying, storking, baby birding or political quotes that will distract from the original purpose. if you want to do that, i will create another thread for you to do that in, or go to some political msg board and argue there. they are not at all constructive to me, or us as a group.

and yes, remember that the reason i did not implement your idea is that i do not like you, and want to ruin your summer league. again.

I was having a discussion with Anoymous Concerned Citizen about the cap rules at MST and EOS (the regular season didn't come up). Why isn't the cap rule the same as the USAU rule? Instead of immediate hard cap with the up-by-3-then-win or add-one-and-play-to-that, why not the soft cap then hard cap thingie? Is there a reason I don't know about?

I suggest!

normally timing. usau puts larger breaks between rounds normally and doesn't have a "we need to be off field xyz by 1 p.m." thing going on.

I miss the days when ten teams would be at Fellini's. Midway is great for in-towners but maybe we should find a place near GSP or announce one each Tuesday.

Otherwise I think the return of Game of the Week would top most people's wish lists.

Three issues with this year:

1. Boring, due to the lack of most of the upper level club talent. (Seriously, those teams won the tourneys and regular season?) MST and EOST finals were very boring.

2. Not enough captains.

3. Not enough ladies.

If you lower the caps further, good luck getting the top club talent back. Raise it and one can be sure next summer is much more fun for all. Even the people who love to complain about parity, etc., will have more things to complain about. The Analyst will actually care about her predictions.

Make incentives for captains, this will make more teams with at least one leader who is slightly invested in the team a month before SL starts. This will make it more fun for more folks.

Incentives to recruit more girls in the league. Make it cheaper if you recruit women. Allow newish women to register at any time during summer league with a pro-rated amount to pay. Incentivize captains with core space for bringing new women pre-season.

We are never going to get parity. Get over it.

Great teams are fun to have around. Keep dropping the core limits and you might never see the top club players back. It is already tough enough to train for the club season, but playing summer league makes a dedicated player workout for 30 minutes in the dark after summer league in addition to SL, weekend practice, and during the week track workouts. Also, many of them are usually captains. Make them want to come back.

If you don't, AFDC summer league will lose one of the best things about it, some of the country's best ultimate players playing next to and with players of all levels. We lost that this year. Are you going to take steps to bring them back?

If they don't play next year, the chances they ever will again are very slim.
