No barefoot playing

Postby MarkSwanson » Thu Jun 28, 2012 7:51 am

A question of playing barefoot (not allowed) came up at last Tuesday's games and I was told that there are many people playing barefoot in Summer League. Here is the League's policy on barefoot playing:

"Also for safety purpose we do not allow any players to participate in a game barefoot. This applied to GSP or any COA field." See http://www.afdc.com/policies/.

As a club, every member has the right and obligation to enforce league policies, especially those that protect members from injury and the club from liability.

While I've only seen two people playing barefoot in the last three leagues, (Fall, Spring, and this Summer), if what I was told is true that many are playing barefoot, we need League-wide enforcement by the members. It's not up to Boezi and the Steering Committee members only.

Let's be safe while we're having so much fun.

Thanks.

That's correct. I/We know the turfs @ GSP frustrates some but the solution isn't barefoot playing. Bring running/cross-training shoes with you and play in those.

I wonder who these "a lot of people" are. I certainly haven't seen any. And none are allowed to.

As a side note, if Mark Swanson tells you something that you disagree with, you are wrong.

But how much time do you spend checking out feet of other players?

We had a similar question come up in our game against Party Rock.

If a player is required to remove an article of clothing because a score was thrown from the "Booty Party Zone," can they remove their cleats?

We decided they could put on the flip-flops they wore to the fields so they were not barefoot. Was that fair, or does it run contrary to the spirit of the rule? If the purpose was to protect people's feet or keep them from slipping, I don't see how flip-flops would be an improvement.

shenanigans aside there rules are there to protect (a) people from themselves (b) people from others (c) the league from people (d) the fields

We don't want someone cleated/turfed to get hurt and we especially don't want them to get hurt and sue us/the party that stepped on them. We also don't want someone stepping on broken glass, etc and get hurt/ill.

Flip flops eliminate half that (the stepping on things) but not the getting hurt part. I can't imaging trying to run/cut in them (my ankles hurt just thinking about it).

Sorry Toejam,

But at least the League waited until you moved to Augusta before adding this policy.

We can see about grandfathering him in to older rules. . .
