I can't post

Postby CraigWithaC » Mon Jan 14, 2008 8:54 pm

I get this error

Could not connect to smtp host : 10060 : A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

DEBUG MODE

Line : 112
File : smtp.php

================

OK, I take it back. It looks like some of the time, my posts went through, but I got the error above numerous times when replying to my 'crutches' post.

This should be fixed. I had to walk through a whole troubleshooting thing on mail sends. The problem was that the forums send an email to people who are watching a thread for replies when you post. This happens after your post is sent so your post still gets put up, then it sits there while the SMTP server times out, then you get the message.

This resulted in people double posting, too, since it looks like their message was not posted. I had to delete a lot of double posts this week.

I tracked it down to the primary DNS entry on the network connections setting being wrong. This was preventing the SMTP server from resolving the hostnames it was trying to send to. I made the mistake of trying to fix this by turning on DHCP (assigning IP/DNS automatically) and in doing so I knocked the site and also my connection to the AFDC box offline.

End result is Shannon had to call in support and the AFDC got a nice little bill for that. My bad. but the good news is the network looks golden and the SMTP server is working like a champ now, so hopefully you won't get any more problems.

Summary:
(1) Rick did some stuff
(2) Other stuff happened
(3) Result: Problem is fixed

Nice job, regardless. Thanks for spending your time working on it.
:lol: 8) :lol:
